Thiruvallam

Poovar

An important destination southwards of Kovalama, Poovar is a fishing village that is placed near the mouth of River Neyyar, known as Poovar Puzha here. Have a peaceful experience here, away from touristy hustle-bustle, while you close to the three water bodies- the backwater, the river and the sea.

Padmanabhaswamy Temple:Trivandrum’s most remarkable landmark, Padmanabhaswamy temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu shown resting on snake Anantha here. This 7-story structure has numerous pillars, delicate carvings and beautiful murals.

Vellayani Lake

Along with Lake Sasthamkotta in Kollam, Vellayani Lake is one of Kerala’s two largest freshwater lakes. Divided by a road, this lake in an area of 7.5 square km is a prime attraction here. You can ride a country boat and enjoy cruising on its placid waters. During Onam festivities, the lake is visited by locals as well as tourists in huge numbers.

Sanghumugham Beach: If you love enjoying sunset views on the beach, Sanghumugha beach is just ideal for you. A 35 m huge mermaid’s figurine, Matsya Kanyaka would amaze you. It is quite close to Veli tourist village and offer recreational activities.

Neyyar Dam: Placed on the banks of River Karamana, this dam is a popular picnic spot that boasts of a deer park, a crocodile farm, a watchtower and a lion safari park. More information on Neyyar Dam
