Chowara Beach Kovalam

Chowara Beach, Kovalam

Nestled on the shores of Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram District, Chowara Beach is located about 10 km south of Kovalam. The stretch of golden sands is sheltered by numerous coconut trees, which secrets the existence of the fishing village, a temple and an old church. The beach is inhabited as a fishing village. Colorful boats are a common sight. Visitors like eagles and kites circle the skies above the sea near the beach.

Chowara beach houses a beautiful old-fashioned village. There is also hill-top Ayyappa temple which overlooks the beach. A yearly 56-day long festival beginning from November 15 and ending on January 15 is attended by many. The antique Analothbhava Matha church is also located on the beach. Vizhinjam harbor is another tourist attraction. The Azhimalathura beach nearby is also worth a visit. It is the only seashore in Kerala not eroded by sea even in the monsoon. In contrast, the sea is receding here. This beach has the revered Aazhimala Shiva Temple as a major shrine.

Chowara beach is ideal for watersports and sunbathing. The beach is open throughout the year. Accommodation facilities of various standards are available on the Chowara beach. Visitors can choose from old Kerala cottages, renowned heritage hotels and Ayurvedic resorts.

Chowara beach is perfect for an escape form the tourist-infested Kovalam Beach. Explore the secluded beaches on a rented scooter. Experience the feel of the surreal mix of the fusion of Malayali fishing villages and luxurious wellness retreats, creating a charm of its own.
