Camping in Nameri Eco Camp

Nameri National Park is one of the blessed regions of Assam. Set in the foothills of Eastern Himalayas along the banks of a tributary of River Brahmaputra, it is a natural heaven. The Tiger Reserve is home to few majestic wild beasts. The wildlife sanctuary is a birdwatcher’s haven as around 300 species of birds and migratory birds can be seen. The lush environs are a breeding ground of adventures of the wildlife.

Nameri Eco Camp is the only jungle accommodation of the national park. The organized campsite is maintained by an NGO. The camps are near the Jia-Bhoroli River set amidst dense green surroundings. The call of the wild can be easily heard from the thatched accommodations. Camping in Nameri offers opportunity of river rafting, bird watching, tiger spotting, safari and trekking. The wilderness adds to the sense of excitement. The thrill of spending time in the natural territory gives memorable experiences.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport to Nameri Eco Camp is Salonibari Airport in Tezpur at a distance of 34 kilometers.

By Rail: The nearest railway station to Nameri Eco Camp is Rangapara, 21 kilometers away. Guwahati is a major railhead of Assam at a distance of 200 kilometers.

By Road: By road, the national park is well connected. Highways connect it from the capital to all parts of the state. Nameri Bus stop receives frequent services of buses and private vehicles. From the bus stop Nameri Eco camp is a 2.3 kilometers distance.

Best Time for Camping

The best time for camping in Nameri National Park is October to early April. In the months of pleasant weather, nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts can have a delightful time. The summers make the region lifeless and the subsequent monsoon makes the territory dangerous. In the winter months, not only are the Tigers seen in action, migratory birds from all over the world make their nests here.

Where to Go

In Nameri National Park, the only campsite is the eco camp. Run by an NGO, it is an organized adventure offering delightful amenities and adventures. Here the camps are of sturdy nature as the wilderness is quiet near. Pitching your own tents are not allowed as the area is a Tiger Reserve.

Activities

The Nameri Eco Camp offers exciting activities while camping. The tranquil environs has numerous adventures. Campers can enjoy the relaxing experience of the natural beauty. Enjoy campfire evenings, gamed, fishing, picnics, etc.

Gear up for river rafting adventure at Jia-Bhoroli River. The rafting usually starts 13 kilometers upstream and takes about 3 hours to complete without halts. The mild rapids on the river are exciting.

The camps organize Jungle walks. Nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts are accompanied with an armed guard (mandatory as per government regulations) who also acts as a guide. Ranging approximately for 3 hours, the trail includes walk till the banks of Jai Bhoroli, crossing the river on boat and then completing a circuit inside the jungle. It’s recommended that the walk should be taken early in the morning as there is a better chance to spot wild animals. There are numerous beautiful birds to see. If you are lucky a tiger can be spotted.
