The Puri Beach Festival celebrates the sandy shores of Odisha. Puri is not just known for its magnificent Jagannath temple, the city is also known for its beaches along the Bay of Bengal. The beach festival is organized by Hotel Association of Puri (HAP) and co-sponsored by the Odisha Tourism and India Tourism Department. It is an effort to increase tourism in the city and also the state of Odisha.
Puri Beach Festival revels the majestic grandeur of Odisha. The basic idea of Puri Beach festival is to present the art, crafts, culture, cuisine and tourism potential of the state on a single platform and to attract world focus on it. Further the motive is to promote Odisha in and outside of the country.
The beach festival is a platter of cultural events. There are classical and folk dance performances from top performers in the state. The handicraft exhibitions are particularly of note as they display the various forms of tribal and other arts & crafts of Orissa. The sand art is definitely the highlight of the festival. There are numerous beautiful exhibits by artists from all over the world. The beautiful displays add appeal to the golden sands.
The festival will also witness a variety of sports such as beach kabadi, kick-boxing, tea-kwno-do, wushe, karate, Indian style of wrestling, beach volley ball by both boys and girls, fire bonati and malkhamb. Regatta boat or yacht races and country boat race among the nolias are quite popular. From food festivals to rock concerts, beach parties to fashion shows, the Puri Beach Festival is appealing for every age group. are some of the attractions which would keep both the domestic and the foreign tourists busy and enchanted all through the 7 days of the festival.
