How to reach

Despite being situated in the state of Tamil Nadu, Yelagiri has much of its proximities with Bangalore. Thus, if you are traveling to this hill station, you have many travel routes.

By Air: The beautiful hill station of Yelagiri has Bangalore International airport as its nearest air junction (145 km away). From here, you can make your onward journey to Yelagiri via cab or taxi.

By Rail: The most commonly used medium to reach Yelagiri is by rail, which brings the travelers as close as 21 km to the hill station. It’s the Jolarpettai railway station which is the nearest railway junction to Yelagiri.

By Road: Buses of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation frequently runs its buses from Tiruoathur, Bangalore, Chennai, Krishnagiri and Vanayambadi. Closest is Vanayambadi (20 km away) from Yelagiri.

 

Best time for camping in Yelagiri

Yelagiri resides at the foothills of the Eastern Ghats in the state of Tamil Nadu. Owing to its topography, the hill station flaunts a moderate climate throughout the year. However, summers and monsoons can get little more hot and humid for an outdoor camp stay. Thus, one must make his camping plans during the time of winters. The best time for camping in Yelagiri starts from November and continues till February.

On your arrival at Yelagiri, make your check-in at YMCA camps over there. One of the best in the region, this camp is part of a special project of the National Council of YMCAs in India. Thus, one can be very much sure of the arrangements and facilities that would be available at the site.

Camping at Yelagiri gives you many opportunities to explore the lush green mountain nature of South India. The hill station has a plethora of undisturbed natural trails which one can explore on the camping trip here. Its highest point is Swamimala hill, the route of which goes through various natural vistas.

Other popular trek routes goes towards Javvadu Hills and Palamathi hills.Besides trekking and mountaineering, rock-climbing and para-gliding are also the most sought after adventure activities at Yelagiri.
