The hill resort of Yercaud lies in the Shervaoyan Hills and is thirty-three km from Salem in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu

Tourists Attractions

There is the Yercaud Lake wrapped in the gorgeous greens and the wondrous woods. You may enjoy boating at the Yercaud Lake. The picturesque pool hosts the Summer Festival in the month of May and attracts several tourists then. Sitting close to the Yercaud Lake you can spot the deer and the peacock Close to the Yercaud lake is another attraction of Anna Park. The swings and the slides at the Anna Park are ideal for the kids. 

Then there are the wondrous waterfalls of Killiyur. The falls are indeed refreshing when they fall from a height of 300 feet. While in Yercaud you may visit the Shervaoyan temple in the Shervaoyan Hills. The temple plays venue to an Annual Festival hosted by the tribes

The hill resort of Yercaud has its own vintage points. There is the lady's seat that offers wondrous vistas of the gorgeous ghats and the trees. At dark you must watch out for the view of the lit Salem that resembles the twinkling stars. The other vintage points at Yercaud are the Gent's Seat, the retreat and the Pagoda Point.

The Grange, Bear's Cave, Montfort school are amongst the other places worth visiting in Yercaud.

How to reach Yercaud

Yercaud is a beautiful hill station of the Tamil Nadu state, which is dotted with a number of tourist attractions, and also offers ample adventure opportunities. Accessing this place is not an issue:

By Air

The nearest airport to Yercaud is the Trichy airport, which is located at a distance of around 165 km. This airport is a well-connected one with important cities of the country and the world. From the airport, take a cab or go on-board a bus to get to Yercaud.

By Road

The town of Yercaud is just 29 km from Salem, which is well-connected to the nearby destinations with a good network of roads. This place is around 190 km from Coimbatore, 220 km from Bangalore and 357 km from Chennai. From Salem, regular buses are available for Yercaud. Renting is a cab is another option.

If you are coming from Bangalore, opt for NH7 driving towards Hosur and continuing till Salem. From here, start driving on the hilly road that takes you to Yercaud from Salem. Bangalore and Salem are also connected through KSRTC and Tamil Nadu buses.

By Rail

The nearest railway station to Yercaud is the Salem junction, about 38 km away. You can rent a taxi or opt for a bus ride from the station to Yercaud. This is a well-connected railway station.

Best time to visit Yercaud

The best time to visit Yercaud is between the months October to June as the weather is extremely pleasant and ideal for sightseeing as well as other outdoor activities. During this time, the temperature ranges between 13°C and 25°C. Festivals like Diwali (October/November) and Pongal (January) are also celebrated during these months. Summer starts from March and goes till June. Though the temperature is between 10°C and 29°C but due to the surroundings hills, the ambiance is wonderful. The highlight of the month of May is a seven day Summer Festival, including flower shows, village fairs, dog shows, and boating races.

Yercaud receives rains from July to mid-September. It is best to avoid this time as the rain can create a hurdle in outdoor activities. However, the lush natural beauty increases manifold. Starting from October and lasting in February, the winter season is again a wonderful time to visit Yercaud. At this time, the temperature remains between 13°C to 25°C.
