Itinerary - The Barail Mountain Range Trek

Day 1 - Dimapur - Kohima

Welcome to the Barail Mountain Range Trek! On arrival at Dimapur Airport/Railway Station, our executive will pick you up and transfer you to the campsite in Kohima (2 hours drive). If time permits, you will explore the village nearby. Come back to the campsite for an overnight stay.

Day 2 - Kohima - Kigwema - Mt. Japfu

On day 2, wake up and leave for Mt. Japfu with packed lunch. Drive till Pony Farm in Kigwema Village (12 km). Start the 5 km trek to Mt. Japfu Base Camp. This is one of the most difficult treks in Nagaland as Mt. Japfu is located at a height of 3,048 m above sea level. This makes it the second-highest peak in Nagaland.

Start walking and enjoy the Jhum field where you will see locally grown vegetables. The next half of the trek will be challenging so you have to brace yourself. On the trail, witness the world's tallest "Rhododendron tree". Enjoy the mesmerizing views and soak in the natural beauty. Thereafter, trek back to Kigwema Village and sleep comfortably.

Day 3 - Kigwema - Khonoma - Base Camp

Start the day with a hearty breakfast and then, visit the local market where organic veggies and rare edible insects are sold. Many authentic herbs used in Naga cuisine can also be seen. Afterward, visit Kohima War Memorial and later, drive to Khonoma Village (18 km approx.). It is one of the cleanest villages in Nagaland.

Savor lunch and then, meet the local craftsmen who got national awards for cane basket making, morung, ceremonial gates, and more. Therefore, we shall drive through Jhum field and stay overnight at Seikhakie, Base Camp (tented/log cabin) (30 km, 1-hour drive).

Day 4 - Base Camp - Dzukou

Grab your packed lunch and start the 3 to 4 km trek to Dzukou Valley Nagaland, which is known as trekker's paradise. It is located at a height of 2438 m above sea level. If you are lucky, you might get a chance to see Blyth's Tragopan in Khonoma Conservation & Tragopan Sanctuary. This is a challenging trek with uneven steps, so be careful. Once reached, stay in the camp for the night.

Day 5 - Dzukou - Dzuleke

Today, on your Dzukou Valley 6 day trek, have breakfast and proceed towards Dzuleke Village with light lunch (3 to 4 hours trek). A car will be waiting for you to drive towards Dzuleke. On arrival, enjoy your lunch. Later, enjoy a restful sleep in Dzuleke.
