Itinerary - Birdwatching Tour - East Assam and Mishmi Hills

Day 1 - Dibrugarh - Maguri Beel - Tinsukia

Meet our representative at the Dibrugarh airport from where he will transfer you to Maguri Beel (2 hours drive). If time permits, sail a boat to Maguri Beel to enjoy birding. Listen to the sounds of nature around you and witness the grassland birds. Once done, drive to Tinsukia (30 more from Maguri Beel). Complete the check-in formalities on arrival and unwind. Overnight stay at Tinsukia.

Day 2 - Tinsukia - Maguri Beel - Tinsukia

Start your day with a delicious meal. Proceed to a full day birdwatching at Maguri Beel. This place is an important spot for winter migratory birds and welcomes several waders. It also houses many grassland species as well as resident birds.

Maguri Beel is a massive wetland at Dibru Saikhowa Biosphere Reserve. Yellow-bellied Prinia, Swamp Francolin, Striated Grassbird, Jerdon's Babbler, Black-throated Parrotbill, and more exotic birds can be seen at Maguri Beel. Once the tour ends, come back to the hotel in Tinsukia and enjoy a comfortable sleep.

Day 3 - Tinsukia - Digboi

On day 3 of your birdwatching tour in East Assam and Mishmi Hills, you will proceed to Digboi. But before that, wake up and have an early tea. Check out and visit the rainforests of Assam. You will be provided with packed breakfast.

Visit Dihing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary for some birdwatching. It is spread over an area of 111.19 sq. km and houses many colorful birds. Get a chance to see White-wing Wood Duck, Brown Hornbill or Austen's Hornbill.

Ruddy Kingfisher, Grey Peacock Pheasant, Pale Capped Pigeon, Wreathed Hornbill, and more birds are also present at this wildlife sanctuary. After spending time at Soraipong and Jaypore of Dihing Patkai, transfer to a hotel in Digboi (45 min to 1 hour drive). Overnight stay in Digboi.

Day 4 - Digboi - Mishmi Hills (Roing)

Begin your day with a healthy breakfast and check out. Drive from Digboi to Mishmi Hills (Roing) (3 hours approx.). On the way, stop at Jia grassland on Dibang River to see Black-throated Parrotbill, Marsh Babbler, Jerdon's Babbler, Grey-headed Parrotbill, and other birds. In the afternoon, head towards Jungle Camp for birding. Overnight stay at Dibang Valley Jungle Camp (DVJC).

Day 5 - Mishmi Hills (Roing)

Post breakfast, make your way for Mishmi Hills birding along Chidu-Kibali lower elevation hills. Also, visit near the Deopani River. Catch glimpses of species of mammals, birds, insects, flowers, and butterflies. Also, witness species such as Rufous Necked Hornbill and Mishmi Wren Babbler, Chevron Breasted Wren Babbler, and more.

The evergreen forests also houses the exotic Lesser Shortwing, Rusty-bellied Shortwing, Golden-throated Barbet, Green Cochoa, Hill Blue Flycatcher, and more species. After the tour, come back to your jungle camp and sleep.

Day 6 - Mishmi Hills (Roing) - Mishmi Hills (Mayodia Pass)

Today, you will visit Mishmi Hills (Mayodia Pass) on your birdwatching tour in East Assam (approx. 2 hours). So, after breakfast, check out from the camp and move towards Mishmi Hills (Mayodia Pass). It is located at 2600 m above sea level and offers astounding views. On the way stop near Tiwarigaon. Complete the check in formalities at a homestay and unwind.

In the afternoon, enjoy birding near the homestay. Witness Black-headed Greenfinch, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Green-tailed Sunbird, Fire-tailed Sunbird, Himalayan Wood Owl, and more birds species. Come back to the homestay and spend a comfortable night.

Day 7 - Mishmi Hills (Mayodia Pass)

After a fulfilling breakfast, enjoy a full-day of birdwatching in Mishmi Hills (Mayodia Pass). Also, explore the roadside trails of Mayodia-Hunli road. Here, you will encounter high-altitude birds like Blyth's Tragopan, Temminck's Tragopan, and Sclater's Monal. Other bird species found here include Grey-bellied Tesia, Chestnut-headed Tesia, Spotted Nutcracker, Collared Grosbeak, and Alpine Accentor. Once the birding tour completes, come back to the homestay for a restful sleep.

Day 8 - Mishmi Hills (Mayodia Pass) - Mishmi Hills (Roing)

On day 8 of your birding in East Assam and Mishmi Hills, start your return journey from Mayodia Pass to Roing. After breakfast, check out, and enjoy birding in and around Mayodia Pass/Hunli. Along with colorful birds, also witness mammal species like Mishmi Hoolock Gibbon, Grey-headed Giant Flying Squirrel, Asiatic Black Bear, Palla's Squirrel, annd Himalayan Serow. In the evening, check in to the Dibang Valley Jungle Camp (DVJC) and stay overnight.

Day 9 - Departure from Dibrugarh

This is the last day of your Bird Watching Tours 9 day itinerary. So, have a fulfilling breakfast and say goodbye to your camp. Get dropped off at Dibrugarh Airport (4 hours drive) to catch flight for your onward journey with pleasant memories.
