Itinerary - Birding Tour in North East India

Day 1 - Guwahati - Nameri National Park

Your tour will start on your arrival at Guwahati airport/railway station. Indian Holiday's representative will meet and assist you to Nameri National Park (approx. 5 hours). En route, there will be a stop at a local dump yard where the Greater Adjutants can be seen.

You can enjoy looking at colorful birds here like Asian Open Bills, Lesser Adjutants, and other species of birds like Citrine Wagtails, Striated Grassbird, and Yellow-Bellied Prinias. Continue your drive to Nameri and once reached, check in to your stay for overnight sleep.

Day 2 - Nameri National Park

Today, wake up and savor a hearty breakfast. Your full day will be dedicated to witnessing the exotic birds of this national park. Start your birding tour in Northeast India and keep a close watch to sight, White Winged Duck. Other birds you will witness here will include Velvet Fronted Nuthatches, Common Green Magpie, Chestnut Bellied.

Treat your eyes to Hornbills like the Great and Wreathed too. After the tour, return to the accommodation for a delightful dinner and a comfortable sleep.

Day 3 - Nameri - Dirang (Sangti Valley)

After breakfast, you will check out and leave for Sangti Valley in Dirang (5 hours). It is one of the ideal places to see a diverse range of bird species along with admiring the rich landscape.

Here, you will come across species of birds including Pale-headed Woodpecker, Blue-throated Blue Flycatcher, Pale-billed Parrotbills, and Streak-throated Barwing. Some others will include Pin-tailed Green Pigeon, Long-tailed Sibia, and also the very rare White-naped Yuhina and Long-tailed Minivet.

In the late afternoon, arrived at Dirang. Complete the check-in formalities at the stay and spend a relaxing night.

Day 4 - 5 - Mandala Phudung and Sela Pass

Today, spend the entire day birding at Dirang's Mandala Phudung Village and also visit Sela Pass. Notable birds you will be seeing in the village will include Spotted Laughingthrush, Rufous-vented Yuhinas, Scaly-breasted, and Bar-winged WrenBabblers. Other than these, you will also encounter Russet Sparrow, striking Crested Bunting, Rosy Pipit, Mountain Hawk-Edge, among many others.

You will be driven to Sela Pass located at an altitude of 13,800 feet to witness high-altitude birds. Here, catch the glimpse of bird species like Himalayan Monal, Kalij and Blood Pheasants, Red-billed Chough, Hodgson's Treecreeper, Snow Pigeon, among others. Once the tour ends, return to your accommodation for a relaxing sleep.

Day 6 - Dirang - Eagle's Nest Wildlife Sanctuary

On day 06 of your Birding tour in Northeast India, have breakfast and check out from Dirang's stay. Before departing for Arunachal, enjoy birdwatching and witness the rare Long-billed Plover and Blyth's Kingfisher (rarely seen).

Proceed towards your next destination, Eagle's Nest Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal. Once reached, complete the check-in formalities into the lodge and spend the afternoon birding at the wildlife sanctuary. Overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 7 - 8 - Eagle's Nest Wildlife Sanctuary

Wake up to the sounds of nature and enjoy a fulfilling breakfast. After that, you will spend the day birdwatching at Eagle's Nest Wildlife Sanctuary. This place is a birdwatcher's paradise and is home to a wide variety of bird species. Here, witness birds like Slender-billed Scimitar Babblers, Ward's Trogon, Purple and Green Cochoas, Gould's Shortwing, Fire-tailed Myzornis, Rufous-necked Hornbill, among others.

Walk through the beautifully laid trails and encounter Brown-throated Fulvetta, White-tailed Nuthatch, Green Shrike Babbler, Black-winged Cuckooshrike, and Green-tailed and Black-throated Sunbirds. Afterward, come back to the lodge and enjoy a restful sleep.

Day 9 - Eagle's Nest Wildlife Sanctuary - Tezpur

On day 09 of your birdwatching tour in Northeast India, have breakfast and check out. Today, you will drive to Tezpur, a city in Assam. On the way, you will descend to Sangti Valley and take this opportunity to look for Black-tailed Crake, Blyth's Kingfisher, and other exotic birds. Late afternoon, arrive at Tezpur. Check into the hotel and unwind. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight stay in Tezpur.

Day 10 - Tinsukia - Gibbon

This is the last day of your birding in North East India. So, after breakfast, you will be transferred to Guwahati (4 hours) from where you will catch a flight for your onward destination with pleasant memories of a birdwatching tour with Tourism of India.
