The opening and the closing date of these 4 revered sites is usually declared by the Char Dham temple committee, Kedar-Badri Mandir Samiti. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that the Chardham Yatra should be processed in a clockwise direction. Hence, the yatra is started from Yamunotri towards Gangotri, following to Kedarnath, and finally closing at Badrinath. The opening dates for the Char Dham yatra of 2021 were announced on the holy eve of Basant Panchami on 16 February 2021 by the temple committee of char Dham. The opening date of Chardham Yatra was announced to be on 18 May 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government put a stay on the Yatra. But now, the government has lifted the stay and the chardham yatra will begin from 18th September 2021. As per the COVID guidelines, only fully vaccinated tourists are allowed to embark on the holy sojourn and they are required to bring negative RT-PCR test reports. Gangotri Temple Opening Date in 2021
The Yatra for Gangotri Dham was scheduled to begin on the holy eve of Akshaya Tritiya, which was scheduled to take place on 15 May 2021 this year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the yatra is now going to start from 18th September 2021 with some restrictions. Only 600 pilgrims are allowed to visit the Gangotri Temple in a day.
Yamunotri Temple Opening Date in 2021
The Yatra for Yamunotri Dham was programmed to start on the holy eve of Akshaya Tritiya, which was listed to take place on 14 May 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the yatra to the temple was not allowed. However, now the government has lifted the stay from the Yatra, and pilgrims are allowed to visit the temple. In one day, 400 pilgrims are allowed to visit the temple.
Kedarnath Temple Opening Date in 2021
On 17 May 2021 date, the Kedarnath Temple Yatra was scheduled to initiate the sacred festival of Akshaya Tritiya by shifting the idol of Lord Kedar from Ukhimath to the main temple. Due to the pandemic, it has been delayed. Now, the Kedarnath Yatra is going to start on 18th September 2021 with some restrictions. Only 800 devotees will be allowed to visit the Kedarnath Temple per day.
Badrinath Temple Opening Date in 2021
Badrinath holy home of Lord Vishnu also opens up during the holy eve of Akshaya Tritiya at 4:30 am tentatively on 18 May 2021. The yatra for Badrinath Dham was also scheduled to start from that day but due to the pandemic situation, it has been delayed. Now, the yatra is going to start from 18th September 2021 with the capping of 1200 pilgrims per day.
