Tourist Attractions in Jaipur
Jaipur, the capital city of the beautiful state of Rajasthan is a major tourist attraction simply because of its beautiful palaces and forts. Popularly known as the Pink city it attracts a large number of visitors each year. It is indeed a place of the royals and visiting the place provides one with a unique opportunity to get an insight into the luxurious life led by the kings. The exotic lifestyle of the rulers who lived in those majestic palaces unfolds before our eyes. The marvelous palaces, which are reflective of the architectural dexterity of our ancient craftsmen are spell-binding. The forts are no less magnificent. We are simply awe-struck when we stand in front of those mighty structures such as the Museum and other Tourist attractions in Jaipur. Jaipur is also a shopper's paradise. The major tourist attractions in Jaipur which are a must see are:
City Palace – This beautiful palace is located in the centre of the city and covers nearly one-seventh of the city. There are several structures including the Diwan-e-am, Diwan-e-khas, Mubarak Mahal, and Chandra Mahal within the palace which are wonderful to look at.
Hawa Mahal- The name is really deceptive because though it is referred to as mahal in reality it is just a sandstone screen comprising of 593 windows. It was initially constructed to enable the women in Rajasthan to have a look at what was going on in the adjacent road while they themselves remained out of view of those outsiders.
Jantar Mantar- This observatory which is the largest in the world is our pride because it shows our achievement in the field of science and techonology. What is most amazing is that several of the 18 instruments which had been installed so long ago are still running today.
Jal Mahal - This palace built of red sandstone is situated in the midst of the Man Sagar Lake. Only the upper storey of the palace is visible to the human eye as the other three lower storeys remain submerged in water. Its beauty is greatly enhanced at the time of the monsoons.
Central Museum – The Central Museum is located in Albert Hall. The building is not only beautiful in itself but it is also a storehouse of rare portraits of Rajput kings, miniature paintings, jewellery and sculptures.
Amber Fort – The most interesting part of visiting Amber Fort is that one can take a elephant ride to visit the fort which is certainly time consuming but at the same time it is a very different kind of experience. Apart from the painted gateway what draws everyone's attention is the Sheesh Mahal, the walls of which are covered with mirrors.
Jaigarh Fort- The Jaigarh fort holds two surprises for us. The first is that it has the world's largest cannon on wheels .What amazes us even more is that it has wide water channels which were actually helpful for rain water harvesting.
Isar Lat or Swargasuli- It is a minaret tower which was built to commemorate the victory of Maharaja Ishwari Singh and cannot be matched by any other watchtower in Jaipur with regards to height.
Maharani ki Chhatri- Maharani ki chhatri is a funeral area where the royal ladies were cremated and there are several cenotaphs built in their honor.
Shopping in Agra- Jauhari bazaar, bapu bazaar and nehur bazaar
