City Palace Museum, Udaipur

Overlooking the beautiful Lake Pichola on the eastern bank, City Palace in Udaipur is a brilliant example of the fusion of Rajasthani and Mughal architectural style. This structure of marble was collectively built by the Sisodia Rajput clan.

The palace is divided into various architectures, which turn out to be its major highlights. Most prominent amongst them is the City Palace Museum, which stays open for exhibition to the general public, all days of the week.

The museum is actually the main part of the palace and is decorated with numerous artifacts from the past.It comprises a set of palaces, construction of which is believed to start in the 17th century and continued till the 20th century. However, two among them, known as Mardana Mahal (palace for the royal men) and Zenana Mahal (palace for the royal ladies) hold maximum significance.

Since the setting up of Palace museum in the year 1969 by Maharana Bhagwat Singh Ji, these two palaces and its contents have been kept under supreme maintenance and consideration. Incorporating the bygone heritage of the royals, City Palace Museum houses an incomparable collection of rare murals, glass inlay work, court paintings of the Mewar School, weaponry and personal belongings of some of the rulers.

Opening hours: 09:30 am to 05:30 pm (last entry at 04:30 pm)

Entry fee: Rs 250 (Indians), Rs 500 (Foreigners). Extra fee of Rs 50 is charged for Palace Museum.

Photography fee: Rs 200 (Indians and foreigners)

Videography fee: Rs 500 (Indians and foreigners)

How to Reach Udaipur

By Air: If traveling by air, board a flight for Maharana Pratap Airport in Udaipur. The airport is at a distance of 20 km from the center of the city and has a good connectivity with major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Kolkata.

By Rail: The city of Udaipur is also connected to numerous Indian citiesby the medium of railways. It is well accessible from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kota, Indore and Indore.
