History

Kuthiramalika Palace Museum was built by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Balarama Varma in traditional Travancore style which is a remarkable specimen till today. Each of the rooms of this Museum houses the articles that were used by the kings and queens of yesteryears. It was the Travancore royalty’s effort to capture the smell of history in the four walls of Kuthiramalika Palace Museum.

The word Kuthiramalika means Horse Bungalow which has got its name from the roof beams which resemble the shape of a horse. The Museum stores ornaments, weapons and rare artifacts of the Travancore Royal family. A Tour to Kuthiramalika will reveal a lot more about the ancient past of Kerala.
