Introduction
The Judge’s Court is India’s first classified Heritage country manor.
It is located in the small village of Pragpur in the Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh.
The Judges Court Kangra is at a distance of 45 km from the Gagal Airport in Kangra and at a distance of 112 km from the Pathankot airport. The Amritsar International Airport is 170 km from Pragpur. Once you reach Pathankot from any of the major railway stations in the country you can avail of the narrow gauge train to reach Kangra valley railway station enjoying the beautiful view of the countryside. The distance from Amritsar and Chandigarh is 170 and 175 km respectively.
The management of the Judge’s Court Kangra provides you with pick up facilities from the near-by railway stations if they are provided with information 72 hours in advance.
The Judge’s Court Kangra consists of two portions. One is the country manor built by Bhandari Ram for his son Justice Shri Jai Lal who was a dear friend of Lord Hardinge and was also very close to the Maharajas of Patiala and Kapurthala. This is why this property is popularly known as Judge Sahib ki Kothi. The other portion is their 300 year old ancestral cottage.
You can spend your time in absolute solitudal bliss enjoying the warm hospitality extended by the Kuthiala Sood family that runs it now.

The suite in the ancestral courtyard has an open terrace so that you can get a lovely view of the Dhauladhar mountain ranges.
Each of the rooms is named differently like Kipling, Hardinge, Dhauladhar, Hermitage, and Kangra. All the rooms are very elegantly furnished and provided with all sort of modern facilities so that you can really feel very comfortable.
It needs to be kept in mind that accommodation is provided only on prior reservation.
Dining
The Judge’s Court Kangra is an excellent country manor which stands amidst a sprawling 12 acre orchard. The orchard has a great variety of trees including mango, lychee, citrus and plum. It also grows its own wheat, maize and vegetables. It also has its share of spice trees like camphor, clove and cardamom. Within the premises of this hotel there is a dairy which provides very good quality milk. Interestingly even the water is collected from an ancestral mountain spring.
The food is prepared making use of its own ingredients. So one can very well imagine that the food served here is of the finest quality. Its taste is enhanced by the spices from its own trees.
Rejuvenate yourself with a cup of warm cardamom flavored tea or bite into some of the fresh fruits. There is ample scope of satisfying all tour taste buds.
Other Facilities
You can easily go for small excursions to the near-by places from The Judges Court Kangra. Some of the places worth visiting are Kangra Fort, Dharamsala, and Mcleodgang. Trekking or a stroll beside the banks of the river Beas would also be very welcome.
What can also be very interesting is a visit to the local weavers and silversmiths who will be very much glad to weave a shawl or a blanket for you overnight.
